Ryan Schwab joined the Twin City Seed team in 2024, bringing with him a wealth of knowledge and passion for sustainable and responsible turfgrass management.
With a background rooted deeply in turfgrass science, Ryan holds both a B.Sc. in Plant Science and an M.Sc. in Applied Plant Science from the University of Minnesota. Before joining Twin City Seed, Ryan worked as a turfgrass researcher at his alma mater for three years, where he contributed to innovative projects focused on no-mow fine fescue management, lawn species diversity, water conservation practices on lawns and golf courses, and roadside grass management. His work continues to influence how turfgrass is managed in environmentally friendly ways.
Growing up in Minnesota, Ryan developed a fascination for turfgrass at an early age, inspired by his father, who instilled a healthy obsession with lawn care. His father’s influence extended beyond turfgrass, teaching Ryan the value of treating people with respect and always prioritizing their best interests—qualities Ryan carries into his work as a sales representative. His approach combines data-driven insights with a genuine desire to help customers achieve their goals. Ryan also enjoys the variety of his day-to-day work, collaborating with homeowners, sports field managers, groundskeepers, golf course superintendents, researchers, and others across the country.
Ryan’s commitment to advancing turfgrass science goes beyond his sales role. He maintains strong connections with academics in the field and actively supports efforts to develop more sustainable practices and technologies. He periodically shares his expertise through Twin City Seed’s Turf Trends Newsletter and participates as a guest speaker in both academic and industry settings. Ryan’s enthusiasm for continuous learning ensures that he stays at the forefront of turfgrass advancements, helping customers implement the latest environmentally and ecologically friendly solutions.
For Twin City Seed’s walk-in customers, Ryan’s expertise extends to plant species identification—a task he finds both exciting and rewarding. Whether identifying a plant sample or helping a customer select the right turfgrass solution, Ryan’s curiosity, creativity, and depth of knowledge make him an invaluable asset to the team. His dedication to sustainability, paired with his personable approach, allows him to build meaningful relationships with customers while supporting their efforts to manage greenspaces effectively and responsibly.
